Frederick Cook Society exhibits collection at Neversink

Saturday, June 28, from 5-8 p.m., the Frederick Cook Society in partnership with The Gallery at the Neversink General Store will present an exhibition of photographs taken by Dr. Frederick Cook (1865-1940) during his expeditions to Greenland, Antarctica, Alaska, South America and the North Pole.

Dr. Cook is the Sullivan County native who achieved international fame for his visionary work as an explorer.

Curated by Cook Society Executive Director Carol Smith, the exhibition is part of the Society’s educational outreach mission. “These are some of the first images of the last unexplored places on Earth”, says Smith. “An absolutely extraordinary body of work from one of the greatest adventurers the world has ever known”.

The Frederick Cook Society is based at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville, New York, where they maintain a gallery and a research library open to the public six days a week.  (www.scnyhistory.org).

The opening reception for the Neversink Gallery exhibition will include refreshments, and of course, live music by the Americana band Little Sparrow.

The exhibition is dedicated to our beloved friend and lifelong Cook supporter, Carol Smythe.

The Neversink Gallery is located at 4 Schumway Rd, Neversink, New York,
