BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Critically acclaimed new play “LION OF ANACOSTIA: The Final Interview of Frederick Douglass” will be presented as a reading at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville on Sunday July 2nd at 2pm. The play premiered in Monticello during Black History month in Feb 2017 and was well received as a reading at the Crawford Library in Monticello. The Sullivan County Historical Society has scheduled a repeat performance to coincide with Douglass’ famous “Fourth of July” oration of 1852.

This story explores the unique friendship of two Historical Legends: Frederick Douglass and activist Susan B. Anthony from the Abolition Era before the Civil War and through the Women’s Suffragette Movement of the late 19th Century. In addition, it explores the life of Frederick Douglass, his rise from slavery to statesman and his unique bond with historical figures of his time especially John Brown and Abraham Lincoln.
